“Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Steampunk most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art.”
This series of portraiture was first started as a response to commission requests from clients who enjoyed my Cyberpunk Portraits, but wanted something a little more elegant. For these Steampunk Portraits, I have explored more relaxed poses, and have further delved into playing with light, shadow and the human subject. These portraits incorporate a sepia-tone wash in a nod to victorian-era photography. Most of these portraits also include subtle pops of colour to accentuate certain aspects of the picture, and to keep the image rooted in an overall colour scheme. I am presently considering commissions to further expand this series.
